UK General Election 2024 Wokerati Party

What’s happened and what happens next?

Rishi Sunak calls for a General Election

We’ve been waiting a long time for a UK General Election and it is finally here, Rishi Sunak announced that he had requested permission from the King (Not My King) on 22nd May 2024, to dissolve Parliament and to call a General Election to be held on 4th July 2024.

I think it is safe to say that many of us Left Wing Wokerati members were over the moon with excitement when we heard this news. For far too long, we have been tweeting #GeneralElectionNow on Twitter/ X and our wishes have now come true.

Rishi Sunak decided to announce the General Election to the Nation outside 10 Downing Street and that is a memory that I will never forget for many reasons. Yes, I felt relief and hope that there was now the opportunity for change and for a new Government to take the reigns but I was more in amazement that the UK Prime Minister decided to stand in the pissing rain with no umbrella to tell us that he had admitted defeat and knew his days were numbered.

With a widely known nickname of Rishi Rat, why would he think it was a good idea to get absolutely drenched standing in the rain, spouting nonsense fears, and lying about how well the Conservatives have done over the past 14 years? I had a feeling that maybe he was trying to look strong and heroic speaking to the country but he looked pathetic, and for a split second, I felt sorry for him as this reminded me of the scene from the 1997 James Cameron Movie Titanic, where the ship was sinking and the soaked rats were also fleeing the lower levels.

I very quickly recovered from that feeling when I remembered that during Covid the Conservatives spent £2.6 million on the Downing Streets Media Hub Room, this was a clear vanity project cleared by Boris Johnson. Shortly after the figures of the Media Room were released under the Freedom of Information Act, a business storage solutions company claimed that they were able to recreate the media hub for less than 1 per cent of the cost to us taxpayers. The total cost based on their workings and sourcing was £2,013.

It makes you wonder why it costs so much, who was gaining from this? Who had shares or owned the company that carried out the work? Well, the company that was chosen to carry out the majority of the work was Megahertz.

In 2013, Megahertz was bought by the UK arm of Okno-TV – a Moscow-based firm that has carried out technical work for state-controlled broadcasters Russia Today, Channel One, and Public Television of Russia.

Most of Megahertz’s current shareholders are either current or former workers at the Russian firm, according to Companies House.

Conservative Connections with Russia

There has been many connections between Russia and the Conservative Government and I would love to know the full truths behind them, especially when we have had British Prime Ministers refusing to release information about meetings.

In 2018 Boris Johnson met with ex-KGB Agent Alexander Lebedev in Italy whilst he was Foreign Secretary and without any security team. Alexander Lebedev was posted as a spy in London in 1988 during the Cold War period but after the fall of the Soviet Union, he then moved into business including the media. It makes you wonder exactly what they discussed.

At first Johnson refused repeatedly to explain the nature of the trip, in response to questions from the Guardian, and whether he took his official security team with him. No mention was made of any meeting with Alexander in the disclosure.

Shortly after, a picture emerged of Johnson at a nearby airport in Italy. Other passengers at the airport said that the then-foreign secretary looked like “he had slept in his clothes”, struggling to walk in a straight line and telling other passengers he had had a heavy night.

There is a lot of speculation that Russia had a large impact on the 2016 Brexit Referendum also. This is a debated subject and unfortunately remains unproven despite multiple sources providing evidence that the Russian Government attempted to influence the British Public’s opinion to leave the European Union

The UK Electoral Commission, the UK Parliament’s Culture Select Committee, Intelligence and Security Committee and the United States Senate have all undertaken the investigations into Russian interference. The “Russian Report” was published in July 2020 by the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament and though they did not specifically confirm Russia’s involvement with Brexit, they did conclude that Russian interference in UK Politics is very common and they did find substantial evidence of their involvement with the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum.

The European Court of Human Rights on Thursday requested a response from the British government to a legal claim brought by three lawmakers who accuse it of failing to properly investigate alleged Russian interference in elections.

The three lawmakers, from the opposition Labour Party, Scottish National Party and Green Party, are the first sitting members of parliament to take the government to the ECHR on the grounds of national security.

They say that the government’s failure to hold an independent inquiry into the findings of a report into alleged Russian electoral interference breaches the right to free and fair elections.

They have taken their claim to the ECHR after London’s High Court rejected the challenge in 2021.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine it did look like the UK Government was standing up to Russia, despite them taking their time to put in sanctions. It was as if they were giving them plenty of time to move money and assets before the sanctions came in. Despite sanctions and trade being stopped it still seems like Rishi Sunaks family are still benefitting from Russian money.

Rishi Sunak’s father-in-law owns the Indian IT company Infosys which is still operating in Moscow. Rishi Sunak has repeatedly called on British companies to pull their business out of Russia to “inflict maximum economic pain” on Putin regime but when questioned by Sky News he refused to comment on his wifes’ stake in Infosys. Akshata Murthy ( Rishi Sunaks wife) receives £11.5 million in annual dividends.

“It’s been reported that you’ve got family like with Russia, that your wife apparently has a stake in the Indian IT consulting firm Infosys.

“They operate in Moscow, they have an office there, they have a delivery centre there. They have a connection with the Alpha Bank in Moscow.

“Are you giving advice to others you’re not following in your own home?”

The Chancellor said: “I’m an elected politician and I’m here to talk to you about what I’m responsible for. My wife is not.”

Rishi Sunak claims he has nothing to do with the family, but I think it’s safe to say that he is financially gaining from his wifes business in Russia.

What is the ECHR?

The ECHR is the European Convention On Human Rights and they have been attacked by Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Government in recent times. The ECHR was formed after World War II to protect human rights and the rule of law, and to promote democracy.

The ECHR is an international human rights treaty that protects the rights of everyone who belongs to the Council of Europe, this is often mistaken for the European Union. All countries across Europe, including Turkey and Ukraine, are members of the Council of Europe. The only states which are not are Belarus and Russia.

Winston Churchill was a strong advocate for human rights and was instrumental in the creation of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). His views on the ECHR were shaped by his commitment to establishing a framework for peace and democracy in post-World War II Europe.

In a notable speech at the Congress of Europe in The Hague in 1948, Churchill called for the establishment of a “Charter of Human Rights, guarded by freedom and sustained by law.” This speech highlighted his vision for a unified Europe where individual rights were respected and protected by an overarching legal framework.

Churchill emphasized that the protection of human rights was crucial for the promotion of democracy and the rule of law. He saw the ECHR as a tool to safeguard these principles and prevent the rise of totalitarian regimes.

The ECHR and the Rwanda Bill

The closure of safe routes for refugees by the UK is a complex issue influenced by various political, social, and economic factors the United Kingdom still has the responsibility of protecting Refugees but the Conservatives are not having it.

Boris Johnson announced the Rwanda Bill in April 2022 and to this day the only people that have been sent to Rwanda are Tory Government officials, we all remember that horrific photo of Cruella Braverman cackling like a mad person whilst standing in front of the houses which were built for the relocation of asylum seekers. Let’s skip over the fact that these houses are being sold to Rwandan locals, that’s a topic for another article. There has been one Refugee that has gone to Rwanda but the Tories had to slip them £3,000 to go. Despite Rishi Sunak originally saying that the Rwanda plan would not work, once he became the Prime Minister he decided to jump on the idea to cater to the racist voters. £3,000 doesn’t sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things but how much is it going to cost?

Rishi Sunak’s flagship plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda will cost taxpayers £1.8m for each of the first 300 people the government deports to Kigali, Whitehall’s official spending watchdog has disclosed.

The overall cost of the scheme stands at more than half a billion pounds, according to the figures released to the National Audit Office. Even if the UK sends nobody to the central African state, Sunak has signed up to pay £370m from the public purse over the five-year deal.

– The Guardian, 1st March 2024

In June 2022, the ECHR, managed to stop the first flight to Rwanda as Lawyers made an emergency application. This was an embarrassing defeat for the Tories and was a mere few hours after Boris Johnson had threatened to remove the UK from the ECHR.

Coming back to more recent times the Government voted on the Rwanda Bill that aims to stop legal challenges against plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. Ministers had eben admitted in statements that it may breach the European Convention of Human Rights. The key element of the Bill would allow ministers to ignore the Strasbourg-based Courts Rule 39 which is more commonly known as a court injunction.

Many right-wing voters are all for leaving the ECHR so that the Tories can start sending helpless refugees to Rwanda but they don’t seem to understand the implications that this could cause for themselves.

Will the Tories win the General Election?

For the past 14 years, the United Kingdom has been damaged by the Conservatives and it is starting to look like it’s the end of the Tories for now. Many of the British Public are fed up with the government’s scandals and how they are running our services into the ground. Currently, the Labour Party is on course to win more than 450 seats according to a poll of 20,000 people. Though we know polls aren’t a guaranteed source, it does show a pretty good indication as to who the next Party will be in Government.

Conservatives are losing a lot of their voters to Nigel Farages Reform Party which in a way is good as it is splitting the vote which will help ensure the Tories will lose but it is very worrying that a Far Right Group is getting more visibility.

Media outlets are coming under scrutiny from the public due to giving Nigel Farage significantly more platform and coverage than other party leaders. Despite all the coverage from the media he doesn’t seem to be answering many questions, when faced with criticism or a question he doesn’t want to answer he simply calls them silly questions, refuses to respond and decides to spout more right-wing hatred.

One bit of coverage which many people did enjoy watching of Nigel Farage was when he was “Milkshaked” outside of a pub in Clacton. 25-year-old Victoria Thomas Bowen was arrested and due to appear at Colchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday 2nd July for throwing a banana Milkshake over the Far Right Buffoon. It is not confirmed whether the banana milkshake was sourced from any bendy bananas.

What happens after the UK General Election?

It seems very likely that the Labour Party will be in Government and most of the UK is just looking for a change, with some people who are voting for the lesser of two evils. Time will tell whether this is the right choice but let’s face it, the Tories’ time is over and we deserve better. The Tories won’t be completely gone but this may be the start of something new.

Over Europe, the far right seems to be growing and it looks like us Wokes are going to have an even bigger battle on our hands. People are worried about Far right Politicians building large amount of supporters and it is all of our responsibilities to try and educate people. Young people in recent years are getting more and more involved with Politics which is a good sign as these young adults are our future and we need them to make educated decisions rather than believing in racist/bigoted opinions.

Here at Wokerati Party, I will be hard at work creating new products for the Wokerati fans to help form a better world
